The OHFA Rate Nobody Puts in Front of You
Program and regulatory figures verified October 6, 2026. Details change; confirm your scenario with us.
This sits on OHFA's own page and almost never comes up in conversation, because nothing in a normal application asks what you do for a living in those terms.
Who OHFA names
OHFA states that buyers working in the following roles may qualify for a special interest rate on the GOLD programme:
- Teachers
- Law enforcement officers
- Firefighters
- Emergency medical technicians
- State employees
★ That last one is broader than the rest and the most frequently missed. The first four are the familiar "first responder and educator" grouping that many states run. Oklahoma adds state employment generally, which covers a great many households that would never think to raise it.
What it is not
It is not a separate programme, and it is not an alternative to the assistance. You are not choosing between the 3.5% and a better rate — the assistance is its own thing and this sits alongside it on the first mortgage.
It is also not automatic. OHFA's language is that these buyers may qualify, which means it is a question to raise, with documentation of your employment, not a box that ticks itself.
Why there is no number on this page
We do not publish rates, here or anywhere on this site. Pricing moves, it depends on your credit and loan size and the day, and a rate printed on a web page is misleading by the time it is indexed.
What we can tell you is that the category exists and that it is worth asking about by name. "Does the OHFA special rate apply to me as a state employee?" is a question that gets a real answer. Waiting for someone to volunteer it generally does not.
How to raise it
Mention the role when you first make contact, not at application. It affects how the first mortgage is structured, so it wants to be known at the start rather than discovered halfway through.
If you are also a first-time buyer, or buying in a targeted tract, those stack with this — they are separate rules and none of them cancels the others. Send us your scenario and say what you do.
